Only this guy would use his talent to be such an incredible douchebag.
There’s this:
There’s this jewel where he manages to wrap a tragedy around himself. (He’s absolutely seeking for some controversy, rather than really addressing the racism issue).
And, of course, his latest:
along with this piece of him interrupting Obama.
And even when he’s doing something for the right purpose, he manages to somehow inject his ego. You have to give it to him. It’s quite brave to quote himself in a video.
Which is perfectly understandable as:
Little is known of Sierra Leone and how It connects to the diamonds we own.
—Me is the Person who said this, me as in Kanye “the Emperor of Goodwill ” West
And although nobody can’t deny that the man has talent (I personally like that Stronger song), I think that since everything has cost him so much work and effort and blood and tears and whatnot, the least he could do is set an example about bravery, endurance, professionalism; even chivalry, or nobility…some virtue worthy of all the attention. You have to think about what could be going through Kanye’s mind when he says he’s already in the history books. I mean, WHAT history books? Why is he getting in there? Because of his talent, or his ego?
But no, since he’s a human being–and of course, we’re all suddenly human beings after realizing that we’ve screwed up, but before that, we’re gods goddammit!–he’ll just do as he pleases while knowing he’s being watched by millions.
Don’t worry, it’ll be fine. You can almost hear it.
I always bounce back.
Later there’ll be a chance to ask for forgiveness in front of a carefully prepared environment (cameras, microphones, talk show host, audience and a perfect close-up view) blaming it on a ”zippy zippy” and whatever foreign forces seemed appropriate or justifiable (it’s called External Locus of Control); we’ll then swallow it whole with a nice smile and a sense of whoa-what-a-nice-man-I- respect-him-so-much for his-profound-humanity-and-humbleness-and-for-the-amazing-human-being-he-is-oh-my-God-what-a-load-of-crap…
But then again, I guess we shouldn’t care that much about celebrities in the first place. That way, the pointless tirade of some attention junkie wouldn’t travel through the world with such strength, muting in between real important news that everyone should really be hearing (did you heard about what happened in Iran after Neda?).
We should seek for our heroes and role models elsewhere (like in…the Government?), or even dare to become them. But since, well, I guess it’s just too hard, I’ll just rant about Kanye West in a blog that not in a million years will get the attention (or earn the money…) that he has.
So, Kanye West, for all the good music you’ve done and the hope that you’ll keep doing it for many many years ahead, I salute you.
You asshole.
Talent is God-given; be humble. Fame is man-given; be thankful. Conceit is self-give; be careful.
